About Artist

"Fragments of Life: Stories Untold

My work explores the stories and emotions of women, capturing their strength and nurturing roles through portraits and decorated tables. I am drawing to how light and shadow reveal the depth of their experiences, and I enjoy working with textures like lace and drapes to highlight their unique beauty. I often start with photographs, transforming them to reflect my vision. The challenge of painting elements like smoke, reflections, and intricate lace keeps me engaged, pushing me to grow as an artist. Location is vital in my work. I depict women in various settings—some in refugee camps, others facing vast, empty horizons. These backdrops tell stories of their pasts and the journeys that have shaped them. Contrasting colors add to these narratives, showing the tension between where they've been and where they are now. One painting features a Colombian peasant, portraying the tenderness of a man who has labored his entire life yet remains kind and caring. Through eyes and hands, I strive to capture the inner world of my subjects, revealing the emotions that define them. For me, art is about uncovering the hidden stories that make us human.  Amalia Laverde
